Why different methods of construction?

The construction method of your swimming pool is not the first question that you should consider. The design of your poolscape should be your first concern. Once you have entrusted us to design a poolscape that excites you and brings your expectations to a higher level, then we can decide on the method of construction. Regardless of what method of construction that you choose, we will build your swimming pool and poolscape so that it will last a lifetime; it is hydraulically amongst the best in the country; and it is well equipped and service friendly.

Pools of Perfection is one of a few companies in the United States that builds gunite swimming pools and poured concrete wall vinyl lined swimming pools.

Pools of Perfection offers two different methods of construction because some people prefer the traditional method of gunite construction and the elegant finishes that can be applied to gunite; and some people prefer the gentle feel of our vinyl lined pools and the affordability and tax advantages of our concrete wall vinyl lined swimming pool. Gunite is classical and versatile and the concrete wall vinyl lined is gentle on the feet and less expensive to maintain and build. Pools of Perfection could easily argue in favor of either pool but could never argue against either pool.

Why build a gunite pool?

Gunite is a classic method of swimming pool construction. Gunite actually refers to the method of placing concrete. Gunite is a dry mixture of cement and sand that is pushed through a "fire hose" via a large compressor. As the cement and sand mixture exits the nozzle of the fire hose, water is introduced as a bonding agent. The cement, sand and water create concrete, which is what a gunite pool is - a concrete pool. After the gunite application is finished, we still need to apply a finish material to your gunite pool in order for the pool to be attractive. The finish material is a crucial component of your pool. Numerous finishes are available in different colors, textures and materials.

Finishing Materials for Gunite

Marble Dust (a.k.a. marcite or plaster)

Throughout the United States, white marble dust is the most popular pool finish. White marble dust allows the pool water to reflect the blue sky and project a heavenly blue pool. White marble dust is bright, classic and elegant. On a bright sunny day, your pool will sparkle. On the other hand, you may prefer a darker pool that blends better with a natural landscape. A gray or black marble finish is less classic but blends better with a free form landscape. Many other colors are available in plaster as well. A choice of color is a function of the landscape.

Exposed Aggregate Finishes

The finish of your gunite pool is composed of cement and an aggregate. The aggregate gives strength to the finish. Exposed aggregate finishes are composed of fine rounded pebbles or quartz that are added to cement to create a color and texture that is more durable than marble dust and more visually stimulating.

Why build a concrete wall vinyl lined pool?

Pools of Perfection is amongst a select number of companies throughout the United States that actually owns specially designed forms for building poured concrete wall swimming pools. There are many gunite builders who construct their pools without adequate forming. Our poured concrete wall vinyl lined swimming pool is constructed by erecting heavy aluminum forms that allow for the creation of 10" wide steel reinforced walls. The pool floor is finished with a vermiculite or concrete bottom. A wide choice of vinyl liners is available to finish the pool.

The walls are so strong that they can act as retaining walls when the topography is sloped. Raised spas, vanishing edge, waterfalls are all possible with our poured concrete wall vinyl lined swimming pools.
